2018 Peace Light Ceremony

Pack 279 assembles for a Peace Light ceremony

Pack 279 assembles for a Peace Light ceremony at Meriden Congregational Church on December 15, 2018.

The Peace Light has been burning for over a thousand years at the Grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Each December, Austrian Scouts travel to Bethlehem to retrieve the flame and spread it across the world; they are challenged to help it reach as many people as possible, while reminding all people that we can be channels of peace through our words and actions. By Christmas, the Flame will be burning in hundreds of thousands of homes and organizations around the world. Pack 279’s non-denominational Peace Light Ceremony was held at the Meriden Congregational Church.

Participating in the Peace Light Ceremony is considered a Messengers of Peace Service project, which comes with a special patch to be worn on the Scout uniform around the world crest emblem. Peace projects encompass harmony between individuals, communities, or humankind and the environment. All Scouts and Scouters who participated in the ceremony will receive this patch.
